First Hair Cut

You may think, hasn't Ian had a haircut before? And the answer would be yes. But this was my first time cutting Ian's hair. He refused to go to a barber or have a neighbor cut it, he only wanted me to cut it. So I had to do the best I could. I did a little research on the internet and that is where the idea came to put him in front of a movie and it really helped decrease the wiggling. The trick is Ian wants his hair long. So I can't just use the clippers and shave it off (the easy method). So I just cut about 2 inches off the sides and back.

The back looks ok....

But the sides were pretty difficult. I was trying to avoid the bowl-cut look but that's what happens when it's long on top and short on the bottom. I think it looks better in person than in this photo.... I hope.

But he's a good lookin' kid so maybe nobody will notice the odd haircut.

Ian's New Look

For my family and friends who are not affiliated with the Stubbs family blog (where we previously posted pictures), here is a picture of Ian in his new glasses. He has had them for 1 1/2 weeks to correct his farsightedness which resulted in alternating isolated esotropia. He is doing great wearing them everyday. And he looks especially handsome too!

Books, Books, Books!

I love to read! When I was in middle school, I kept a detailed log of the books I read. I haven't done anything like that since then. Then I saw that one of my blogging buddies keeps a list like that and it inspired me to begin! I'm going to record all the books I read in 2008. So here is my list so far, books I have read in January of 2008.

Stardust by Neil Gaiman

A Mormon Mother by Annie Clark Tanner

Outside the Gates by Molly Gloss
(couldn't find a picture!)

The Golden Compass by Philip Pullman

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale

The Subtle Knife by Philip Pullman

I love reading a variety of books. Plenty of fiction with an occasional autobiography thrown in. I often read historical fiction and 19th century books as well. I seem to be heavy on the children's fiction right now... which is a lot of fun and easy to read when you have a 3 year old screaming in one ear! I'm not sure what book I'm going to pick up next, I have a few on hold at the library, one checked out and a ton of books at home I haven't read yet. I could also count reading Mike's poetry thesis this week, it's really long but a fun read.

Its your birthday!

Happy Birthday Mike! Wahoo... the big 29! Only one more year until you are certifiably old. How should you spend this next year before oldness sets in? Maybe skydiving or extreme rock climbing? Anybody have any suggestions for how he should spend this next year?
